Music Barn
Waitsfield, Vermont | 2009
Music Barn is designed as a retreat where musicians can live and record in an original barn structure from the 1890s. The timber frame bent structure was acquired, disassembled, relocated, and reassembled to its current site in northern Vermont. Original barn board siding was salvaged for exterior siding as well as interior walls and exposed ceiling sheathing. Miscellaneous barn wood was salvaged and re-milled into cabinetry, doors, trim and architectural woodworking and the cupola was reconstructed to match the original. A technologically sophisticated recording studio was inserted into the space and is acoustically isolated from the adjacent living spaces.
