A two-story, cantilevered structure of glass and repurposed wood siding anchored by a sculptural concrete lower-level plinth.

An acoustically inspired studio features natural plaster and angular black walnut detailing above, while the lower level unfolds into curved, playful living spaces with custom built-ins, hidden rooms, and vibrant, bespoke furnishings.

03

Designed to inspire the creative forces within; to reflect the artist's ethos for a nature-integrated, creative, collaborative studio space coupled with an imaginative, private living refuge.

About

A high-performance, all-electric recording studio and residence designed with advanced acoustic detailing, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient systems to support creative work and private living.

The program is organized predominantly around the first-level recording studio and the lower-level private living spaces. The studio level consists of the entry, tech and storage closets, isolation booths, control room and live room. The lower level includes the guitar tech room, guitar storage, kitchen, sleeping, full bathroom, office, and miscellaneous creative spaces. Outdoor spaces include the upper cantilevered deck off the studio space, an entry courtyard, and a lower-level walk-out terrace.

The project is 100% electrically energized. Heated and cooled with electric heat pumps and remote air-handlers.  The polished concrete lower-level floor is a thermal heat sink for the air-to-water heat pump system. The wood siding is repurposed Douglas-fir snow fencing. Natural plaster finishes, non-toxic, zero VOC paints, and water-based wood finishes were used throughout. The project is insulated with closed-cell spray foam and an integrated ERV provides fresh air exchanges.

Careful consideration for acoustic-sensitive spaces was a high priority for mechanical and construction detailing.
