Quaker Bluff
A lakeside residential compound including a main house, a guest house, and a barn, designed and built to balance traditional and modern features.
Nestled on the edge of Lake Champlain, Quaker Bluff is composed of a modern residence, a guest cottage, and a barn, each built to respect the surrounding landscape while offering distinct architectural statements.
The main residence incorporates a shallow, water-flanked entry, capturing sweeping views of the lake and Adirondack Mountains. The custom-designed front door reveals expansive vistas and flows into the home’s interiors. Large windows and free-floating corners pull light into the living spaces as they frame the expansive landscape. The home is a refined example of Birdseye’s craft with precise detailing that integrates the building into its environment.
The cottage, built on an existing foundation and rooted in traditional gable massing, strikes a balance between a more intimate experience and a bold, modern design. The use of board and batten siding reflects tradition, while contemporary elements like large storefront windows introduce a dynamic contrast between the old and new.
