About
A lakeside residence built with natural materials and careful craft to complement its wooded peninsula setting.
Nestled on a wooded peninsula overlooking Lake Champlain, Champlain Modern is a residence that harmonizes with its natural surroundings through the use of natural materials and considered craft.
The home’s massing is defined by two angular wings, enclosing a central courtyard and connected by an entry corridor to ensure privacy and an uninterrupted connection to the outdoors. Western red cedar, Corten steel, corral board, and board-formed concrete age well with time and set the home in its wooded context.
The two wings of the house are crowned by large hip roofs with 8-foot eaves, framing views of the lake and surrounding woods. The cantilevered overhangs extend 26 feet, creating a sense of weightlessness while providing protection from the elements.
